What better way to spend a Monday than with trumpeter, Mark Kavuma, and his quartet with their stylish spin on the jazz genre soaked in soul and engrossing grooves.
Boasting more than a decade of experience playing trumpet and keys across London’s ever-expanding jazz scene, Mark has released three albums as TBF’s band leader so far, the latest of which, Arashi No Ato, was aptly the inaugural release of Banger Factory Records, which he founded in 2021, describing the label as “a natural evolution” from the eponymous ensemble, which “quickly established itself as a cradle for young talent”.
Elsewhere, Mark is an Associate Music Leader for the Tomorrow’s Warriors programme, involved in ensembles including the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and Jazz Jamaica All Stars, and is also leader of London-based carnival band Kinetika Bloco. This year also saw the release of his debut piano album, Zaitz & Kavuma Back To Back.
We can’t wait to welcome this musician on a mission to infuse the “indelible musical movement [of jazz] with the energy, attitude and swagger of a new generation” to The Yard on Monday 16th May.
Kavuma is as gifted a composer as he is a trumpeter.
