Soweto Kinch
Award-winning saxophonist, composer, poet, MC and producer Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile musicians in both the British jazz and hip-hop scenes. Undoubtedly one of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University, he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic — including a Mercury Music Prize nomination, two UMA Awards, and multiple MOBO awards.
His latest studio album, The Black Peril, was released in November 2019. The expansive album was informed by the race riots of 1919 and celebrated 100 years of ‘black music’ across the Diaspora. From the project came a multi-faceted online festival in 2020, including contributions from historians, artists and notable cultural figures reflecting upon the modern implications of the aforementioned events.
